Billing and Insurance
The Kirklin Clinic accepts most forms of insurance; however, check with us to make sure that your particular coverage is approved. When you visit, please bring the proper insurance identification cards so that we can submit your claims to your insurance company. If you are required to file personally for your company's insurance, we will provide you with all necessary forms to file your own claim. When your visit is completed, you will be expected to pay any charges that will not be reimbursed by insurance (e.g. co-payments and deductibles), unless you have made prior arrangements with one of our financial counselors. Because your insurance coverage is a contract between you and your insurance company, it is your responsibility to obtain any physician referral precertification that your insurance company requires in order for your visit to be covered.
Child Care
So that our medical staff may provide you with the expert care and undivided attention you deserve, please make arrangements for someone to supervise any children who might accompany you on your visit.
Lost and Found
The lost and found station is in the security office, located on the second floor of the Clinic next to the entrance to the parking deck skybridge.
Patient Escort Services
Complimentary patient escort services are available throughout The Kirklin Clinic. These escorts wear uniforms for easy identification. If you should need assistance, a wheelchair, or a stretcher, an escort may be summoned to any area of the Clinic. If you are near an information desk, request an escort there; however, if you find yourself in need of assistance at any time during your visit, simply ask any Clinic employee to help you secure an escort.
Pharmacy
The convenient Kirklin Clinic Pharmacy is located on the second floor of the Clinic and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Same-Day Surgery
To reach Same-Day Surgery in The Kirklin Clinic:
- From the front of the building, turn left once you enter.
- From The Kirklin Clinic parking deck, use the skybridge into the building, and take the elevator or escalator down to the first floor. Then turn right.
Services for the Hearing Impaired
The Kirklin Clinic offers a variety of helpful aids to ensure that hearing-impaired patients receive proper health care services. You may even request nationally certified interpreters who can fluently express and understand sign language. Call (205) 801-8000 to make arrangements for a certified interpreter. We ask that you give us a least 24 hours to personally arrange this service for you.
Services for International Patients
The Kirklin Clinic is dedicated to serving international visitors with courtesy and personalized attention. When you arrive in Birmingham, a staff member will meet you at the airport and help your family with hotel accommodations. The Clinic also can provide you with an interpreter if you do not speak English. To arrange services, please contact International Patient Services at (205) 934-7444.
Transportation
Many nearby hotels offer airport shuttle services. If you have pre-arranged accommodations, check with your hotel for transportation schedules. Taxis, limousines, and city buses are available to assist you seven days a week. Call MAX (Metro Area Express) at (205) 521-0101 for current bus fare and scheduling information.
Food and Beverages
While food and beverages are not permitted inside The Kirklin Clinic, you'll find both a restaurant and a vending area conveniently located on level one (ground floor) of the Clinic's parking deck. UAB Hospital, located just across the street from The Kirklin Clinic, also offers several dining options. For additional choices, visit the restaurants located near the UAB campus.
Information Desks
Kirklin Clinic information desks are located on each floor near the elevators and at the entrance to the Clinic from the parking deck skybridge. Uniformed personnel at these desks will be happy to direct you to physicians' offices, answer any questions, and acquaint you with the many services offered at The Kirklin Clinic. Maps of the Clinic are also available at every information desk.
If you need a pay phone or restroom, they are located on every floor next to the elevator lobby.
Smoking Policy
The staff of The Kirklin Clinic agree with the Surgeon General's report that active and passive smoking is a major cause of preventable disease. As an institution dedicated to the treatment and prevention of disease, The Kirklin Clinic is committed to guaranteeing a smoke-free environment. Smoking is prohibited throughout The Kirklin Clinic, including all Clinic buildings, entrances, restrooms, grounds, the parking deck, and parking lots.
