Medical West is a 300-bed acute care hospital offering a wide range of diagnostic, surgical, medical, and emergency services. Primary care physicians, specialists, and sub-specialists have offices located on the Medical West main campus.
Residents of Hoover, McCalla, Tannehill, and Vance benefit from the convenience of Medical West family practice and internal medicine clinics in their neighborhoods.
Medical West joined UAB Health System in April 2002. Since that time, the hospital has added neurological services, a new state-of-the-art fixed based MRI, and a second CT scanner. Many areas of the hospital have undergone renovation, including our hospital lobby. Patient room renovation is currently underway on all floors.
Other units located within Medical West include:
An intensive care unit; a telemetry nursing unit; an oncology unit; a gastrointestinal unit; an adult mental health unit; medical/surgical units; and an acute rehabilitation unit primarily for orthopedic and stroke patients.
Parking
Parking is $2 at Medical West. You can park in the main lot in front of the medical center's professional building and in the 4-story parking deck on Medical Center Drive next to the emergency department.
Two additional sidelots have also been designated as patient and visitor lots in order to meet the needs of our growing community.
A free shuttle service is available in the main parking lot, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visiting Hours
The visiting hours for routine care patients are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Women's Center visiting hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the exception of spouses or significant others.
For Intensive Care Unit patients, visiting hours are from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.; and 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
It is best for there to be no more than 2 visitors at a time.
Cafeteria
A full-service cafeteria is available to relatives and friends of patients. It is located on the C level of the professional office building.
The cafeteria's daily service hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner are 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
