UAB Highlands is a general acute care facility with physicians on staff covering a full range of general, medical and surgical specialties.
In August 2005, the UAB Health System entered into a management agreement with HealthSouth Medical Center and assumed full ownership April 1, 2006, changing its name to UAB Highlands.
Services Offered
The facility offers orthopedic, plastic, ophthalmology, ENT, GYN Oncology, urology, oral, and general surgery as well as internal medicine, cardiology, pulmonary and GI services. Many of the services are provided on both an inpatient and outpatient basis by community-based and university physicians.
In addition, the facility houses The Workplace, a comprehensive injury management and rehabilitation center, the UAB Pain Treatment Clinic, a Sleep Disorders Center, the state's only Gamma Knife Treatment Center, the Heart College, a comprehensive cardiac care program, and a full range of modern diagnostic testing modalities. The facility also offers a 24-hour emergency room.
