Innovations in Gynecologic Oncology

UAB is one of the nation’s leading cancer research and treatment centers and offers the most recent advances in cancer treatment. Through the leadership of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, UAB is nationally regarded for its care of patients affected by gynecologic cancers.

The Division of Gynecologic Oncology serves the entire state of Alabama and receives additional patient referrals from surrounding states as well. The Gynecologic Oncology Service admits over 2,500 patients per year, including 900 new cancer patient admissions. Approximately 2200 surgical cases are performed each year, making ours among the largest in the country located at an academic institution. We are a full participant in the Gynecologic Oncology Group (National Cancer Institute sponsored Cooperative Group Clinical Trials Network). In addition, due to our active clinical and basic science cancer research, associated with UAB's Comprehensive Cancer Center we participated in

  • ALTS
  • Ovarian Spore NCI industry funded
  • Active treatment and immunotherapy gene trial
  • LCF consortium
  • Vaccine trials for cancer industry trials in collaboration with Johns Hopkins

We have been recognized as one of the leading gynecologic oncology research divisions in the world and were one of five institutions to be awarded a Specialized Program of Research Excellence in Ovarian Cancer (SPORE) by the NIH.
