Interventional Cardiovascular Unit (ICVU)



The Interventional Cardiovascular Unit provides care for patients that have undergone an interventional cardiovascular procedure.

Patient Population
  • Adult
  • Percutaneous Coronary Intervention with Stents, Pulmonary Vein Isolation, Pacemakers, Internal Cardiac Cefibrillators, Atrial Septal Defect Repair, Patent Foramen Ovale Closures
  • Average length of stay: 1.5 days

Number of Beds
  • 14 Telemetry

Nurse/Patient Ratio
  • 1:3-4

Rotation/Shifts
  • 12 hours shifts 7a-7p and 7p-7a
  • Master schedule enables staff to know their schedule in advance
  • Monday-Saturday; closed on major holidays

Skill Mix
  • Registered Nurse - 92%
  • Patient Care Technician - 8%
  • Clinical Educator support
  • Required competencies: Removal of Arterial and Venous Sheath and Compression Device; Dysrhythmia certification, ACLS
